Our Vision and Mission

Vision Statement:
The goal is to create an inclusive community where East African families in Ontario have access to resources, opportunities, and support to thrive and achieve their fullest potential.

Mission Statement:
MyInLaw works to break down systemic barriers faced by marginalized communities, focusing on empowering youth, supporting workforce development, enhancing access to recreational activities, and fostering economic resilience. We strive to create sustainable solutions through collaboration and community-led initiatives, ensuring that all individuals, especially the youth, have the tools they need to lead and succeed.

What is Community Development?

Community development is about creating conditions that allow all individuals to participate in, contribute to, and benefit from the growth of their communities. It’s a holistic approach that emphasizes collective action, mutual support, and long-term sustainability. Community development doesn’t just focus on one aspect of life—it’s about improving Spiritual consciousness, social, economic, cultural, and environmental conditions for everyone. This means that it intersects with every field, from education and healthcare to technology, business, the arts, and beyond. Community development involves everyone, regardless of their professional background.

How Can You Participate in Community Development Through Your Field of Expertise?

Community development draws its inspiration from various sectors of society. Whether you work in healthcare, education, business, technology, or the arts, you can play a vital role in shaping the future of our communities.

Here’s how you can participate in MyInLaw’s community development efforts without having to change careers:

1. Education & Youth Empowerment
If you’re a teacher, mentor, or have experience in education, you can help empower the youth in the East African community by offering your skills. Through tutoring programs, leadership training, and workshops, you can make a significant impact. You don’t need to change your career—just apply your existing knowledge to help guide and inspire the next generation.

2. Healthcare & Wellness
If you have experience in healthcare, you can volunteer to provide wellness checks, mental health support, or health education to community members. Helping address health disparities and ensuring that community members have access to the resources they need aligns perfectly with MyInLaw’s mission.

3. Business & Entrepreneurship
For those of you who work in business, entrepreneurship, or finance, there are many ways to contribute by offering financial literacy workshops, supporting local business initiatives, or helping community members access microloans or start their own businesses. By sharing your expertise, you’ll help build economic resilience and empower individuals to achieve financial independence.

4. Technology & Digital Literacy
If you work in IT, tech, or digital marketing, you can contribute by offering workshops or support on digital literacy, coding, and online safety. In today’s digital world, access to technology and skills can make a massive difference. You can contribute to bridging the digital divide by providing essential skills that will unlock opportunities for education and employment.

5. Arts & Culture
If you’re passionate about arts and culture, you can help preserve and celebrate the cultural heritage of the East African community through art programs, performances, and cultural events. Promoting cultural integration and fostering community pride are core aspects of MyInLaw’s work, and your artistic talents can play a pivotal role in these initiatives.

6. Environmental Sustainability
If you work in environmental science, urban planning, or sustainability, there are opportunities to get involved in community-based environmental initiatives. You can help promote sustainable practices, green spaces, and environmental education in the community—contributing to a more sustainable future.

Whether you have experience in education, healthcare, business, or any other field, your skills and knowledge can make a real difference. You don’t have to leave your career to contribute to community development. At MyInLaw, we understand that the most effective solutions come when we leverage diverse perspectives and talents.
