As we step into African Heritage Month, it's a time to reflect, celebrate, and embrace the rich tapestry of African cultures and histories. The Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement is at the forefront of this celebration, offering a myriad of activities and programs that honor the contributions and achievements of Black communities.

Understanding African Heritage Month

In celebration of African Heritage Month, the Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement is excited to offer a variety of Caregiver and Community sessions in collaboration with community partners. These opportunities are designed to support Black families and families raising Black children with systems navigation, and deepening their engagement and advocacy for their children in TDSB schools.

BFCN Scholarship Navigation & Directory

The Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement in collaboration with the Black Foundation of Community Networks (BFCN) invites Black students in Grades 7-12 and their families to a virtual scholarship application workshop. Learn how to search, prepare and apply for scholarships and bursaries.

Webinar Wednesday: Families as First Teachers - Nurturing Early Literacy Strategies

The Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement in collaboration with the Early Years Department welcomes Black families and families raising Black children to Webinar Wednesday: Families as First Teachers - Nurturing Early Literacy Strategies. This virtual session will explore the continuum of early literacy behaviours K-3 including the foundational pillars of literacy development. Learn about practical examples of classroom practices, and strategies to nurture literacy exploration and play at home.

The Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement believes in the power of community. We encourage everyone to participate in our events and contribute to the celebration of African heritage. By coming together, we can build a supportive network that uplifts and empowers individuals from all backgrounds.

Black Life Untold Stories

The Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement in collaboration with the Black Opportunity Fund are thrilled to invite you to an exclusive screening of episodes of the groundbreaking Black History docu-series – Black Life Untold Stories. This screening will be followed by a curated discussion regarding the development of the series and the educator guide. Join us at Winston Churchill Collegiate Institute for this insightful experience!
